Opposites do more than just attract in TONI ALEO's latest Nashville Assassins novel about a very bad boy and the good girl he can't resist.
The instant Piper Allen sees Erik Titov, she wants him--wants his rock-hard body, sure, but the strength and mystery that lie behind that superstar hockey jock demeanor, too. So when he sidles up to her at a bar and slinks his arm around her waist, she's lost. What follows is the wildest night of her life . . . followed by inevitable heartbreak the next morning. And then, a few weeks later, a very big surprise: two blue lines on a pregnancy test.
Only a check to the head could make Erik fall for a nice girl like Piper. But since their crazy-sexy night together, he's been trying to forget about her alluring body by falling into bed with every woman in Nashville, and it's not working. So when Piper shows up at his house with a baby-bomb to drop, it doesn't take much for Erik to suggest the nuclear option: marriage. While it's supposed to be all for show, the second they say "I do," the ice between them starts to melt into sizzling steam.

Not sure I will keep reading this series
By Cat's Romance Novel Themepark
We are four books in to this hockey romance series and it has reached the point where I am not sure I will keep going.
All the books have annoyed me on the "omg, twit" level at some point but most have managed to redeem themselves by offering something else compelling enough for me to like the book anyway.
This book never recovers from the nose dive. We get the only real love scene in flashback. I hate italics for longer than a paragraph so already its not working for me. Also, we see the hero getting a BJ from someone else in the early chapters. I really dislike that crap in a romance.
The psychology of his man ho status based on an violent abuse past never seems quite right to me. Sexual abuse, maybe. Sexual addiction issues that would need therapy for certain but his over all attraction/repulsion to the heroine really plays out oddly.
She is in love with him. Why????? He is a huge jerk and I would want to hose him down with disinfectant for hours but instead she sleeps with him without a condom. Sure, he is hot with tattoos but so what?
The heroine, other than her lame and completely baseless love of the hero, is okay but her family treats her like poo so even though I know them from the other books I no likey them.
They marry. He is an even bigger ass. They separate. He evolves. Cute baby stuff at the end.
I am not sure how I even finished this one.
I like Aleo. I do. I just want her characters to be less dumb and drama-based and her books to really look at the actually very interesting human dynamics that are created. Hotness does not equal Hero.
I was given this book for my honest review. So, there you have it.

Don't do it!
By Melissa K
Piper is an idiot. She's in love with another idiot called Erik. Erik sees her out one night and they make the beast with two backs - sweet idiot love. Erik gets the hell outta Idiot Dodge and leaves a present. An idiot baby in Piper's idiot womb. But Erik, that hockey lothario with a single, shrivelled bean for a brain, is strangely affected by that night and decides to bang every woman in sight, because that's the extent of his coping abilities. He's not being discreet about the Erik Unknowingly Got Someone Pregnant and Now is Sticking it Everywhere He Can Fit it Tour 2013 so he gets pulled up at work and told that he needs to sort himself out or he'll be ice hockeying in Libya next season.
While Erik is cutting a love-making swathe across Nashville, Piper and her gestating idiot foetus are getting on. She's a bit flaky, see, and she hops from one job to another, her only constant is loving a man-shaped zygote who has yet to master the intricacies of basic understanding and fine motor skills. When Erik discovers that Piper is six-months pregnant, he's confused. He can't understand why. If he doesn't want a baby, why is there a baby? (I can only assume the Nashville Assassins provide some kind of remedial class for him as part of his contract) He asks her if she's sure it's his. He asks if she's sure it's not cancer. He berates her for ruining his career and his life by not controlling her stupid, hysterical woman-uterus. He uses the baby as a hockey puck. He sets fire to his own hair (only two of these are false).
Erik is Alexis Carrington if evolution never happened. He's evil but doesn't have the wit to be interesting or complex with it. He decides that he needs to marry Piper not because it'll benefit his child or Piper, but because it will enable him to keep his spot on the team. So they get married, he bitches about the baby, laughs at Piper when she gets pissed at him for not helping her out of a car when she's eight-months pregnant (that's what valets are for, according to our hero) and is generally the most awful creature who has ever masqueraded as a human.
I kept waiting for his redemption - when he'd realise how awful he is, how immature, how cruel and vicious, but it never happened. It turned out his nastiness and stunted development were down to his abusive parents. Which is fine, but explanation is not absolution. He treats women appallingly, the mother of his child being no exception. He cares only about himself and his career. On the plus side, it's slick - your usual sports romance fare, but there's no bright light, there's no humbling moment. It's just 'Me Tarzan, you Jane, all Janes whores, where Tarzan's hockey stick?' Skip it.

One of the worst books I've ever read
By Slick Reads
I have to say it pains me to do this. I've never been in to hockey, I don't watch it but my friends got me hooked on Toni Aleo's Assassins series and I've loved every one of them until Blue Lines. There have been very few books in my years as a reader that I come out and say I dislike immensely, but this is one of them. I knew going in the "hero" (and I use that term VERY loosely in this case) was a womanizer and a jerk. I knew the heroine had a "thing" for him. I thought foolishly that the author would somehow let us see a different side to him but she didn't. In fact, he only got worse. The ONLY saving grace to this story was seeing all the characters from the previous books multiple times because without them I would have given this book zero stars.
I understand Erik had a horrible and nasty childhood. I get that and I've known people who suffered a great deal like him but he was lucky, he got to go live with an aunt and an uncle who loved him beyond reason. A lot of people aren't that lucky and instead of being grateful for the second chance he was given, he made the decision to just be a complete jerk (I had a more descriptive word in here but had to remove it for Amazon) especially to women and most of all to a woman that made him "feel" something, one he thought was special. Right here any SANE person would be seeking professional help to try and figure his life out but instead Erik became an emotional abuser to the woman carrying his unborn child. Continually berating her about how she ruined his life and how he was no good for her...blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. GROW the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks up and be a man and take responsibility for your own actions and realize that YOU are the only one who can change your life. The amount of times I wanted to physically harm this character during this book is unreal and I am not a violent person but believe me if this man was real, I wouldn't hesitate if he stepped in front of my car to run him over. Yes my friends, he is that bad.
I've always like Piper despite her being flighty and somewhat unstable but in this book I wanted to shake her and pull a Cher from Moonstruck and slap her across the face and say "Snap out of it!" Seriously, I understand loving someone and wanting to be with them but anyone who allows someone to verbally abuse them repeatedly needs help. All the while this is going on I'm waiting for her to miscarry from all the stress he puts her through. The constant "come here, get away" games he played with her pissed me off and the fact that she kept letting him do it. When he screwed up royally, she didn't make him own up to it and he never, ever said he was sorry for his actions and that my friends is not someone you need in your life. Instead he'd just buy or screw his way out of it and that is all kinds of messed up. When she finally had enough and grew a backbone I was like heck yeah, but then it only got worse because she turned around and had a full lobotomy. I respect that she was in a difficult position but the fact that she was weak and continually put up with his shit was strike number two for this book.
The icing on the cake that flat did me in was Erik's complete and utter turn around and all of a sudden he's good, she's good and they are happy. Sorry, I'm calling bull hockey! No one and I mean NO ONE changes that quickly. These two need therapy and a lot of it and bringing a child into their messed up world is all kinds of wrong. While most people are probably happy with their strange little HEA, I'm waiting for the shoe to drop because these characters are screwed up and I don't buy it.
I was really hoping to see Erik finally grow and become a man but instead I saw a woman become less because of him. It's very rare that I don't like both the hero and heroine in a book but this is one of them. I'm so disappointed in Blue Lines and feel that it has wrecked an amazing series.
