April 19, 1775 was the most momentous day in American history. Over the course of nearly 18 hours, a morning that began with midnight riders spreading an alarm about a British raid headed for Concord would lead to the British column fleeing for their lives back to the vicinity of Boston as thousands of militiamen headed to cut them off and surround them. By the time the sun went down, 10 years of strife between the 13 colonies and Great Britain finally boiled over into pitched battle and a Revolution.

In the wake of the Revolution, the importance of April 19, 1775 became clear to everyone, and the legends and mystique surrounding that day have grown ever since. That day made an icon out of Paul Revere, who would have been greatly surprised at the end of his life if he had known he would become famous for his midnight ride. As a fervent and well-connected patriot who was part of Boston’s intelligence network, Revere was sent on the ride toward Lexington along with William Dawes, with the intention of warning the countryside that British troops were heading that way presumably to arrest patriot leaders Samuel Adams and John Hancock. After warning Adams and Hancock, Revere, Dawes, and another messenger, Samuel Prescott were stopped and detained by British soldiers on the path toward Concord, and though Dawes and Prescott managed to escape, Revere was escorted back toward Lexington by the British that morning. As it turned out, Revere and the patriots were wrong about the actual reason for the British march that morning, and Revere did not successfully finish his own ride.

The Battles of Lexington & Concord are just as full of legends. It’s unclear who fired first at Lexington, but it resulted in a handful of colonial militiamen laying wounded or dying as the British continued on toward Concord, where they encountered far more organized resistance. As militias from across the countryside swarmed toward the action from neighboring towns and villages, the British forces began the march back to Boston, coming under fire alongside what would become fittingly known as “Battle Road”. By the time the British made it back to the safety of Boston, thousands of militia men had surrounded the city, beginning what would become a nearly year long siege. The American Revolution had officially begun.

Old Souls

Old Souls was an excellent story about fate, loss and love.

Alyssa Reynolds is an up and coming graphic designer at Young and Rubicam. For Alyssa, the story begins uneventfully but with a strange sense of foreboding. She has to deliver a presentation at a meeting that will be attended by one of the company's owners -- Mark Young. Sitting next to her longtime mentor and best friend, Colin, Alyssa attempts to still her racing nerves. However, she senses the foreboding and feels that her life is about to change. Then the vibrations start. Alyssa's body is positively alive with a strong vibration that she has only felt in a series of recurring dreams. The vibration grows stronger and then Alyssa comes face to face with its source, Mark Young. From that one meeting, Alyssa's life begins to change...never to be the same again.

I really enjoyed this magical novella. Alyssa and Mark were such likeable characters. And boy did I ever feel their plight once the revelations started coming so fast and furious. I love the twist with Alyssa's father...totally unexpected but very fitting with the story. The redux test was absolutely heartbreaking. Who could make the "right choice" in that situation?!?! But *deep breath* I so appreciated the outcome of the situation.

This story was endearing and sexy. Ms. Lupton definitely has a way of drawing a reader into the story and making them fall in love with her characters.

Steamy romance with a suspenseful, thrilling plot! A must read!

The author of this book is a friend of mine on Goodreads & while I might be slightly (wink, wink) biased because of my relationship with her, I do believe in giving an honest review regardless.

I knew nothing about the contents of this book before I read it except for the book's description, so everything about it was practically a mystery to me. Having said that, I don't want to give too much of the book away in my review to all of the potential readers out there. However, I will say - Old Souls is a thrilling, nail biting, steamy paranormal romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat for pretty much the entire length of the story. P.A. Luton knows how to reel you into her world by creating mystery in her plot to keep you obsessed with turning pages to find out what will happen next. The H&h's characters are well developed & their romance is HOT - not to mention the amount of passion & love you can feel with P.A.'s words that make you feel their emotions right along with them. This book is definitely one that I would recommend to any adult that loves paranormal romance, with hot sex & a suspenseful plot.

Life at the Century of Progress Exposition

Lest anyone blind buy this and be disappointed: If you're looking for a good overview of the Fair with a map of the fairgrounds, clear pictures of all the pavilions, etc. this is not that book. What it is - the everyday goings on at the Fair. The people who worked there, the entertainers in the various ethnic villages, the different events held at the Fair, the human factor if you will, as seen in photos from the Chicago Tribune. Most of these photos haven't been seen in decades and these pictures show things not seen in many of the other books on the 1933-1934 Fair. Very interesting.

This book is all photographs taken from the World's Fair in Chicago. I was hoping to see the exhibits but it was mostly people in front of the exhibits and you couldn't tell what most of the exhibits look like. There were some arial shots but they were not very detailed either. Good book if you want to look at people. Not so great if you were more into things.

Out for a fast Buck

As a previous reviewer indicated, some of the pictures were ok, but most were of unknown (or when named, "Who??"). There was no research done that I could tell as to what most of what the pictures were about, what the subjects were or other info that could of probably been found by going to the articles of the day. Disappointing!

This sequel is better than the first!

Loved the 2nd book of Erin's New Adult Series. Erin does a wonderful job of making you feel as if you are really watching this relationship happen. You can feel Jessica's turmoil over the transition from dutiful daughter to following her own heart. Their relationship is real, gritty, and so true that it you can feel the emotions. Thank you again for a wonderful read Erin!

Well Sweet by name but maybe not by nature! Jessica Sweet is the daughter of a strict religious family with strong beliefs and moral standards. She really doesn't want to go home during summer break so concocts a story that she's helping the poor and building houses. So far so good but she's going to need somewhere to stay and her solution? Well step right up Riley! Riley is the brother of Tyler who happens to be an ex but Riley has got the house to himself for a week and although not always that friendly it's a godsend, isn't it?

Jessica has tried for so long to live up to her families expectations but sometimes a girl just has to be true to herself. Jessica's folks might want her to be a pure little girl but she's no angel! Jessica has needs pure or not. If she has an itch then she wants it scratched and she'd rather have sex with friends who she trusts then random strangers and if that means some think she's easy then so what? Riley may be the hottest guy on two legs but it's obvious he's not into her. Jessica starts seeing a whole new side to Riley and it's a lot deeper then she expected . He's a strong determined young man who is fighting to keep all his brothers together. Jessica has ideas that might help but first she has to get his trust but that means letting down her own barriers and that's not an easy ask for anyone Sweet or not!

This is the second story in the True Believers series and is clearly aimed at a New Adult audience. I was quite surprised at the lack of sex if honest, as Jessica is painted as maybe not the shyest woman around. Instead the author has given us an insight into just how complicated attitudes towards sex and relationships have become. Is it really a good idea to have friends with benefits ? Is a booty call ever a good idea? Just what do guys think about girls who indulge in casual sex? Jessica is no stereo type and she's most defiantly not a typical heroine but she's a good person who just wants to experience life . Riley comes across at first glance as a brash sarcastic young man but he's way more sensitive and caring then I expected. He's funny , loyal and surprisingly deep. Happily though the author doesn't make him perfect but the window scene was simply hilarious!

So this book was not exactly what I expected. It's truly a journey for the two main characters that will make you both angry and sad at certain moments. Very well written and refreshingly different to so many other romances available . Well worth a read and it's a series that is just growing on me. Start with True and watch all these slightly dysfunctional characters grow because it's quite a ride that Ms McCarthy takes us on!

Loved Riley and Jessica!

We are back with the gang from True. Jessica needs to find a place to crash for a week before her new apartment is ready. She is refusing to go home to visit her strict Religious family for the Summer. So she is staying in Cincinnati but telling her family she is off doing missionary work. Her room mate Rory, her boyfriend Tyler and his younger brothers are off to visit with her family so Tyler offers for Jessica to stay at his place. The only problem is that his older brother Riley is also living there. And Jessica and Riley have kind of a love/hate relationship. They are two very sarcastic people that love getting a rise out of the other.

"Your sarcasm is annoying..."
"Why? Because it remind you of yourself?"
"That's entirely possible..."

But strangely enough they begin to enjoy each other's company. It first develops into a grudging friendship, then some secret feelings, and lust. She is there for him when he needs it. And he anchors her. But they are both somewhat awkward when it comes to relationships. It is easy to get hurt and hurt the other.

"So what do you think? The princess and the prick...It could work. Or at least we could give it a shot."

I adored Riley! He seemed so cocky and self absorbed at first, but he is actually caring, sweet, and a one woman man. He respected her and refused to let them be about casual sex. He is not smooth like his brother, but is genuine and sweet once you got to see his real personality. He is a little rough around the edges, protective, jealous, and could be quick tempered. He's from the wrong side of town and struggling financially, but he did his best to take care of those he cared about.

"I want to be important to you. Special...Do you know how stupid I feel saying that? I think my balls just dropped to the floor."

Jessica is the wealthy, bratty, spoiled, Minister's daughter. But she is not the prim and proper Minister's daughter she thinks she is supposed to be be. She does not fit the mold at all. She is used to having sex and not worrying about emotions or consequences. We already know this from her exploits in the first book. It is easier not to care than to risk being rejected. But Riley drives her nuts by holding back. She is a bit lost and not sure what direction her life will take her. But she knows she does not want to follow the path that her family is trying to force on her.

(Quote)My last name shouldn't be Sweet, it should be Sour. Jessica Sour. That was me. A big tart, mouth puckering, acidic mess.

I loved seeing the other sides of Jessica and Riley. They had always been snarky, sarcastic, and confrontational. But we get to see their deeper sides. Riley always seemed egotistical, but he is not really a player. He is more settled than that and believes in building feelings and relationships even though initially he did not even realize that was what he wanted. And Jessica was always afraid to be out of control and show emotions. But Riley and his brothers brought out the best in her. He did not allow her to hide behind casual hook ups and a public facade. Their chemistry was there but was kept in check by Riley. He made it build slowly and allowed their feelings to catch up. He would not settle for a quick random act. Together they are funny, sarcastic, flirty, and have a lot of sexual tension. Their jealousy was cute. Their playful banter was fun. They really were a lot alike deep down and strangely good for one another despite conflicting outward appearances and family backgrounds.

"I guess we're both f***ed, huh?"
"Looks that way."
"Then I guess it's a damn good thing we found each other."

I admired Riley and is love and care for his brothers. His emotions ran deep and those times that they spilled over and he could not contain them were heart warming. He was a man dealt a bad hand in life and was just getting by, but Jessica filled a void and was a bright spot for him. And Jessica found purpose and direction with Riley. She found herself, her strength, and her capacity for love and feelings.

We got to visit Tyler and Rory, Kylie and Nathan, and Bill from True. And Riley and Tyler's younger brothers Easton and Jayden were also a big part of this story. Just like in True, I felt the ending was a bit rushed. I understand why she might have chosen not to do an epilogue since the next book will be her friend Robin's story in Believe. I am already intrigued by her story and the new character we got to see a peek of at the end of this book. But I would have still liked to see a bit more in the ending since I was not quite ready to let this couple go. But I enjoyed their story. It lived up to it's name(or her last name) and was sweet and it was funny, heartfelt, inspiring, emotional, and romantic. I really liked Jessica and Riley and being able to check in with the rest of the characters.

A Nice Variation of a Familiar Favorite

This book kept me interested, and had a few twists and lots of humor--but I haven't read the original in several years. The usual characters were included, and they were an interesting lot. Considering how many different movie versions I've seen of Robin Hood, this one was unique. I would have given it 5 stars, but I felt the author left the reader hanging. There are a few editing issues, but, unfortunately I've found that to be the case in most e-books. I enjoyed it.

FUN, clean shortish adventure!

This was such a fun book. I didn't have high expectations and was so happy about how fun this book is. There were a couple parts that could have been made clearer where the action happens and I don't get what is going on but overall well written. The characters make the book, Robyn is awesome. A hero who doesn't want to be and hides as often as possible, her band of men who love and protect her and her enemies who try to catch her and don't forget Marian who is just a crazy best friend. It was great to read how she steps into the roll as the book goes on and the special relationships she develops with her men and oh the little romance that happens is just so great. Very fun book that ends in a total cliff hanger, I had to buy the second the minuet I finished and it was great and ended well. I will be reading this to my daughters.

Innovative story; less than stellar editing

I found this as an also-bought after finishing Lady Thief by A.C. Gaughen, which features a female Will Scarlet. Since I'm a Robin Hood fan and love books that re-cast mythical heroes as women, I figured this would be right up my alley.

And it was. There are a good many passages that made me snicker and giggle and thought were quite clever. At the same time, it's very... juvenile, and I had trouble believing that adult characters would act in such a way. I actually re-checked the categorization of the book to see if perhaps I had picked up a middle grade novel by accident (as some of the reactions would make sense, then), but this doesn't appear to be the case. The book starts out fast, gets to a slow spot as they recruit the Merry Men almost effortlessly, and then again turns fast-paced towards the end (and ends on a cliffhanger, so of course I had to buy the second book).

That's not counting the numerous editing errors that made me wince. Frequent errors like missed commas or writing "and" instead of "an"; it was distracting and took me out of the story, but I should say, not enough for me to not enjoy the story. For a 99c deal, I can't say I'm disappointed, even though there are certainly better edited 99c or free purchases out there. If you're looking for a fun, mind candy women-disguised-as-a-man take on the Robin Hood myth with witty dialogue, and are willing to accept the sometimes-childish writing and frequent errors, then by all means, check this out.

Thank-you, Dinah. This book is one of my new favorite guides in my returning to full strength. I have felt pretty beat up by work, surgeries, and falls. I really did not know how to catch my breath. You have done a great job incorporating the latest evidence based practices in simple language and illustrations that are easy to read and understand. Something very important when you have brain fog.
I finally understand the importance of breathing with my diaphragm-energy giving, versus breathing with my shoulders, neck and ribcage- energy taking. And I am having wonderful success. Yes, I have taped my mouth shut and the relief is wonderful, I am not losing CO2 anymore. The gentle stretches are extremely helpful and doable. My sinuses are cleared. I am getting out of that vicious hyperventilation cycle. This book is wonderful, life changing, just wish it was in paperback too.
