Excellent but commentary contains MASSIVE SPOILERS!
By DavidW
Preamble:
I started reading the Wheel of Time when A Crown of Swords (book 7) was a new release. A read those earlier novels a few times over, but didn't do a fresh reread when A Path of Daggers was released. At the time I didn't need it. When Winter's Heart came out there were some characters and plotlines I could not remember. Crossroads of Twilight was frustrating due to me having forgotten so much and how very slowly paced it was. When I read Knife of Dreams I had forgotten so much that only part of it made sense to me.
I stopped reading the Wheel of Time, I thought it would not be finished anyway. Sanderson took over, and I decided to wait for him to finish. But in the meantime once I knew roughly when the final volume would be published I started rereading the series. It was a joy to reread the early novels, the first three are so fast paced, and I loved meeting the characters all over again. The Shadow Rising and Fires of Heaven were a bit longer, a bit heavier, they felt like transitions from action packed to political intrigue, but they managed to balance both of those elements well and really expand on the world building and the character development. I recently reread Lord of Chaos and found while it dragged more than I remembered, I still enjoyed it. But on A Crown of Swords I just lost my momentum completely.
This reread and the one after are saving me. Frankly books 7-11 are not well written and not worth rereading except to have the plot and characters firmly in mind for the final volumes. I want to see how the story ends this summer.
Review:
This summary is detailed enough to provide you with all relevant events, plot and characters. It cuts out the long winded descriptions of braid tugging and fabric of dresses to get you exactly what you need so that you can move on without sacrificing anything remotely important.
The commentary is insightful and witty but I quickly discovered that I have to skip it because there are tremendously huge spoilers thrown in casually without warning. It is frustrating, callous and unfair of the author. If like me, you have not read any of Sanderson's novels, just skip all commentary.

Good summaries, uninteresting comments.
By Daniel Langdon
A good way to remember the first books in order to read the new one without rereading the whole saga (which is huge). I liked how some chapters are made very short and others quote more from the book, so you not only get to check on facts, but also remember character traits, etc.
Summaries on the other hand are not so good. They are maybe as long or longer than the summaries themselves. If you found boring the constant repetition on the books (of characters that for the hundredth time can's seem to understand any other person or gender, etc), be prepared to see constant repetition on the comments too. Especially looong feministic analysis of how every possible event in the book reflects on gender equality issues. While refreshing once, it gets boring quickly. I ended up skipping commentary completely.

For re-reading, not fast-reading
By Fredrik Garmannslund
I started reading WOT in the mid 90's. Somewhere in the middle of Crossroads of Twilight I lost interest. A year ago I started rereading from book one. A year later I had reread the first seven books, but there's so many plot lines I have a hard time keeping track of them all. The first re-reads were very helpful. The only trouble is that Butler assumes you've already read the first eleven books, so she gives away a lot of spoilers which should only be revealed in book ten or eleven. I therefore decided to not read the last part of this book, since at this stage I want to find out for myself. Superb book otherwise if you already know who's exposed as darkfriends etc in book ten and eleven.
