Like a car wreck...I just couldn't look away...
By Amazon Customer
1 ½ Stars
Oh I so WANTED to like this book. That being said, I didn't, I couldn't. And yet I couldn't stop reading it...it was like watching a car crash, I just couldn't look away.
The first third of the book, I spent half of my time being jarred out of the story by the strange lack of contractions. The book is written in first person POV and even the inner dialogue was strangely bereft of contractions. How many people sound so utterly formal all the time, not only when speaking, but also when thinking?
Speaking of POV, the entire book is from Ellery's POV, except for one strange, short chapter written from Connor's POV. We learn nothing about his motivations or his inner self and it seems to serve no purpose in the story arc.
Every time they have a fight it turns into the sacking of Carthage, including the razing of the city and the salting of the earth. No small disagreements, just global thermonuclear war followed by one or both of them leaving. And then with very little growth or development, magically they get back together and are having sex.
And speaking of the sex, this was a very un-erotic book of erotica. The following excerpts are from a single two-page section:
********
He gently inserted his finger in me and feeling the wetness before inserting another. I gasped at the pleasure and arched my back for him to go deeper. His tongue ran circles around my swollen area forcing me to release my pleasure to him
********
He sat up and moved fluently in and out of me. He reached his hands around and grabbed my breasts, squeezing them and pinching each nipple before moving his hand down and rubbing my aching spot.
********
(That's right people, he moved *fluently* in and out of her.) All their sex scenes are like this - short, barely descriptive and supremely UN-sexy. And you can also see the profound lack of good comma usage. I would rather have too many commas than the extreme dearth of commas that this book presents to the reader. I found myself having to read sentences several times in order to get the right meaning.
I think the author might also be unaware of the use of the apostrophe in order to show possession - instead of Connor's plane, it is Connors plane; instead of Connor's penthouse, it is Connors penthouse...I don't know if I saw a single correctly used apostrophe to show possession in the entire book.
I gave this 1 ½ star because the storyline had promise, and I did finish the book. I am unbelievably happy that I borrowed this book and didn't spend any money on it.

OK but not great
By Becs G
I really wanted to love this but it just didn't work for me.
It's a story we've all heard pretty much many times before - it does have a few unusual twists and turns which should help it stand out but sadly, there's also a whole lot wrong with this.
Firstly, the way the characters behave - really quite brattish and inexplicable behavior. Also the editing is shocking. At one point the characters delcare their love for one another. It's a pivotal moment, really important to the story and they say "I love you to." REALLY - that should be TOO. There's a whole heck of a lot of this going on - to and too, your and you're.
Just OK, not great.

Jaw dropping awful and THEN SOME times 1000
By SunFlowers
This book is the epitome of why people frown on self pubs sometimes. It's so bad. It's 100% crystal clear this book had no editing. It was written super fast and pastes together and slapped with a price tag. Shame!
Awful grammar. The writing out of numbers like crazy under 10? Who starts a sentence "2 minutes until we leave so hurry up" that's an example but still that's what this story is chock full of. That's basic grammar 101. You spell out numbers under 10. Wikipedia can tell you that and it's quick. It's "Two" minutes. All sentences that begin with numbers are spelled out regardless of the rules. That's elementary basic everyone knows this. Come on Ms. Lynn! There's absolutely no excuse for something that basic. There's at least 10 sentences that start with numbers under 8. Come on!
Too much naming. You're so silly Connor Black. You are amazing Ellery Lane. These two are obsessed with their full names. Enough Ms. Lynn. We get it. His name is Connor Black and her's is Ellery Lane. Unless someone's mad at another person no one uses a full name. Parents do when their kids are in trouble, spouses/SO's and such do. Not in regular conversation. So where shall we go today Ellery Lane? I don't know Connor Black.
Give me a break. The eyes can only roll so much. I was honestly afraid my would literally roll out of their sockets.
It's so bad. It needs SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much editing. I feel pins and needles cringing over how awful the grammar was. A few things can be overlooked if the story is good enough but all the Ellery Lane, Connor Black, OMG from Ellery's best friend. Literally OMG was all over the place isn't enough to overlook the dreadful grammar.
For $3.99 that's highway robbery and then some.
Overall: it's not even worth the shiggles. It's funny and cringe worthy because it's the kind of bad you can't fathom and only ever hear about people ranting about because you just can't believe someone would be that careless and kind of greedy and write something like that then put a price on it. It's that bad.
Authors should take pride in their work. There is no way a person could reread this and think it's worthy to publish. Make it the best it can be. This is without a doubt a first draft copy the author was just so jittery to publish as fast as possible to make a few bucks.
I skimmed the reviews but I should have listened. A lot of them point to the bad grammar so take note people.
